VMworld 2014 General session Live (day 2)
The general session on the second day often shows a lot of demos. Last year we saw a demo of Mirage, where a laptop was dropped on the floor and had its data redistributed to a virtual desktop in seconds.
Wonder what they will be demoing this year?
Follow it live on VMGuru.
In the August 26th VMworld 2014 keynote, Ben Fathi, Chief Technology Officer, joined by VMware leaders, shows you how exciting new additions to the VMware portfolio make IT more nimble and automated, empowering you to deliver apps faster and more reliably than ever. – See more at: http://www.vmware.com/now

Today’s Reality is that we’re stuck in Silos. We should not be focussing on the choice for one, but on the combination of techniques.

Ben on stage for VMware EVO
Getting EVO Up and running to depoy vms in under 15 minutes
Scales up to 100 Server VMs and 250 Desktop VMs, 15.000 mailboxes
Evo does non-supportive updates
Based on 2u units, existing of 4 nodes, including storage, so you don’t need other storage
More capacity, just scale out: add more boxes
Customize via a web based interface. UI after deployment is simplfied UI, but still vCenter can be used.
Availability Q3 2014 from couple of partners
EVO:RACK also available for a full SDDC. vCloud Suite, Virtual SAN, NSX. You can start with half a rack, but can grow to multiple racks. All configured by software.
EVO:RACK deployment. Zero to App in less than two hours.
EVO:RACK is tech preview right now
The Power of AND
VMware OpenStack Community Contribution. Lots of additions by VMware.
“Best way to run OpenStack is on VMware”
vRealize Suite adds functionality to OpenStack as well.
VMware Integrated OpenStack fully supported by VMware
As IT organization you don’t need to learn new tools, but can start developing now by using the OpenStack API’s already in use
vSphere Innovations – now in Beta:
Fault Tolerance for Scale-Up Applications: 4 virtual CPU’s instead of the 1 today!
FT makes zero downtime possible for multiCPU VMs (on hardware failure)
Also: Cross vCenter vMotion, Long Distance VMotion, NSX
Containers aren’t that new, jails on BSD, etc.
With Docker you can build it once, run it multiple times
Containers can run perfectly in SDDC on VMs with containers
Containers are not new to VMware. Cloud Foundry supports containers for more than three years
VMware’s gonna work with Pivotal, Google and Docker with an Open Container API.
Now a demo from vCloud Automation Center
Enhancements for containers on VMware are speed
vRealize Suite: Cloud Automation, Cloud Operations, Cloud Business for Physical, Virtual, Cloud. Use it on-premises or As-a-Service
vRealize Suite. Register for the Beta: http://vrealizeair.vmware.com/
Demo on Software-Defined Data Center Policy
Deploy complete stacks with firewalls, switches etc in NSX with vCloud Automation Center on deployment of an multi tier application
Secure Micro-Segmentation in the Data Center, set it up so that there are Controlled communication paths with 3rd party context like anti-malware, intrusion detection
