Another 6 Months, Another Job Change PDF Print

It is old news now that I have recently undertaken yet another job change.Contrary to the press release, my personal change actually took effect on January 1st of this year. Fortunately, my last few career changes have all been down the same career path within the same organization. (I'd personally question my rapid changing career if it weren't).

With the completion of the Vizioncore acquisition, and the prior acquisitions of Invirtus and Provision Networks, Quest has enough going on the virtualization space to justify the creation of a business unit surrounding this "new" technology. The business unit is headed by Matt Dircks, who I already have a profound amount of respect for, and is a logical extension to Quest's existing expertise in the Database, Application, and Windows management spaces.

The question that everyone I know has been asking me is “What does a Lead Architect do?” I’ve quickly found that the answer is just about everything. My experience in virtualization and my understanding of where the technology is heading allows me to assist in defining both the short and long term strategies for Quest virtualization products. I’m heavily involved in determining which technologies or products Quest will develop or potentially acquire, and help influence the direction of those technologies. I’ll also have the opportunity to speak on behalf of Quest to analysts and reporters about product strategy and technology trends, which I am looking forward to. My personal goal is to get my hand drawn, heavily pixilated face in the Wall Street Journal somewhere.

I’m really excited for VMworld Europe in Cannes, France in February where both Quest and Vizioncore will be displaying a product that has consumed a large portion of my life for the last 12 months. If you’ll be in France in a few weeks feel free to stop by to say “Hi”, and to check out what I think is the one of the coolest technologies you’ll see for virtualization this year…of course, my opinion is heavily biased.
