It appears as if Virtual Iron has also decided to play the "New Release" game by announcing Virtual Iron 4.2 for general availability. I can honestly say I lost this one in all the hype of waiting for VMware to officially announce VI 3.5. This release adds some well needed functionality to the Virtual Iron offering to make them more competitive in the enterprise space.
The following key features are nothing new to virtualization, but are new to the Xen-Based platforms.
- Multi-pathing for virtual server ethernet and fiber channel
- Virtual Machine snapshots
- Dynamic sizing of storage resources
As soon as I can get to a point in which I can order new hardware (damned VT requirement) I will be playing with the Xen-Based platforms and will undertake a large writing project in which I will describe these platforms as they relate to how a VMware administrator understands the world. |
