Vizioncore has officially announced the release of vConverter 3.0 as a Technical Preview for all partners and customers. Among the most noticeable new features is the capability to integrate directly with VMware VI3 for high speed, easy to use P2V conversions.

As a disclaimer, I do work for Invirtus, who developed the P2V technology and, I played an extremely active role throughout the product development and testing phases.

Without being too boring and marketing related (That's what Press Releases are for), the following laundry list of features have made their way into this release.

  • Enterprise-class conversion solution that significantly reduces the time & effort spent converting physical & virtual servers to the VMware, Microsoft or Virtual Iron platforms.
  • Straightforward setup and does not require installation of infrastructure components such as databases or web services. The vConverter application is a light standalone application that takes very little time to download and install.
  • Intuitive & easy tool applicable for one time server consolidation or ongoing server conversion for disaster recovery.
  • Conversion Direct to ESX Server. Hyperfill™ allocation algorithms ensure maximum efficiencies when converting directly to VMware ESX Server.
  • Lightning fast conversion speeds. Leverage block-level data transfers to provide the fastest and most reliable data transfers.
  • Increased Write Speed. vConverter includes an option to use Vizioncore's proprietary vzBoost™ VMware kernel level driver to speed up direct writes to VMFS while reducing I/O bottlenecks.

Vizioncore has released a video demonstration showcasing the speed of a server migration. The product information page has also been updated to reflect the new features of this release. Last, but not least, users may now officially register for and download the Technical Preview release.
